Notes for using CardFile with the Atari Portfolio

TRANSFERRING FILES TO THE PORTFOLIO

A CardFile data base can be downloaded to your Atari Portfolio computer for
use by its built in Address Book application. Here are the steps to do
this...

1. Filter your cards, if desired, to transfer only particular cards.

2. Select PORTFOLO.CFP as your printer driver from the configuration menu.
   - The main thing is that the Portfolio flag in the ADDRESS BOOK
configuration should be set to 1, the cr/lf flag in the INITIALIZATION
section should be set to 0, and the output flag should be set to file
     output.

3. Go to the print menu and print as an address book.
   - You will be prompted whether you wish to include extended notes. You
may not wish to include these in your Portfolio data base.
   - You will be prompted to select a file for the Portfolio data base
file. You can use "unnamed.adr" as a default.

4. Transfer your Portfolio file to the Portfolio.
   - One method is to use the parallel port interface for file transfer.
   - Another is to use a Hard Card.
   - Another is to use a serial interface with terminal programs on both
     the Portfolio and the ST/TT.

Notes:

CardFile 4 has the option of dialing up to four telephone numbers. The
first two will be sent to the Portfolio on the first line using the
fieldnames as identifiers. The second two phone number lines are
treated as note lines whether or not they are used for phone numbers.
Therefore, for Portfolio compatibility, use the first two phone fields
ONLY for phone numbers, and the second two for option phone/notes.
Enter the phone numbers in the format (216)345-6787 so that the
Portfolio can parse the area code properly. The Portfolio supports
multiple phone numbers per field, but this is not recommended if you
are dialing from CardFile as well as the Portfolio.

TRANSFERRING FILES FROM THE PORTFOLIO

Since the Portfolio does not use pre-defined fields, direct file import
from the Portfolio is not supported. It would require that you try to
systematically input data into the Portfolio and that would probably cause
lots of confusion. Perhaps someone will write a Portfolio program to input
address data in pre-defined fields. At that time it would be
straightforward to import to CardFile directly.
