Chagall Reference   Print <Control-P>    12.5.93
================================================

   Here you will find all the adjustments for
   printing out a picture.

Right side:
~~~~~~~~~~~
   Preview (symbolic display of page to be printed):
   The picture (represented by a grey area of the
   appropriate size) can be positioned on the page
   directly with the mouse, or by inputting the
   coordinates at bottom left.
   'Lighten/darken':
      You can use the slider to make the printout
      lighter or darker by 50 %.
Left side:
~~~~~~~~~~
   'Zoom-factor':
      Permits enlargement of the picture during printout;
      values between 100 and 3200% can be set (in steps
      of 100%). Any size changes will also affect 'printing'
      to an .IMG file, so you can use the zoom-factor to ensure
      the picture will be output at the desired size and
      resolution via a DTP program, say.

   'Copies':
      Number of copies to be printed out.

   'Format':
      Page format of the printed page (will be shown
      in the Preview). You can select between 'DIN A4',
      'DIN A5', the American 'Letter' format as well as
      'Envelope' (DIN standard).

   'Quality':
      You can switch between 'Draft' (fast printout
      using smaller amounts of ink or ribbon) and
      'High' (which gives optimum print quality).

   'Mode':
      You can switch between 'Mono' and 'Colour' printing.

   'Resolution':
      Depending on the printer type, various resolutions
      can be selected here (e.g. HP LaserJet and DeskJet:
      75, 100, 150 and 300 dpi). At a lower resolution
      the printout will automatically become larger (and
      vice versa), as the number of pixels (and so the
      absolute picture size) remains constant. Changes
      in resolution will be shown in the Preview field,
      so that you will always have a check on the actual
      size of the printout.

   'Raster':
      Output-rastering of halftone or colour pictures.
      The two best suited types for inkjet, laser or
      dot-matrix printers are 'Ordered Dither' and
      'Floyd-Steinberg'.
      You will also find various standard raster-screens
      used by the printing industry, though these are of
      little use for printout on traditional computer printers.

   'Printer':
      At the present time Chagall supports the following
      printer types:

         - HP DeskJet family up to 550C (Colour)
         - HP LaserJet family up to Laserjet IV (600 dpi)
         - Atari Laser
         - Canon Laser
         - Epson FX 80 (9-pin)
         - NEC P6 (24-pin)
         - Printer with GDOS-Driver
         - IMG file

      If your printer is not included in the above, then you
      may be able to drive it via GDOS, as long as you have
      that program with a suitable driver. If you select 'GDOS'
      from the 'Printer' menu, it will address the driver
      specified in the ASSIGN.SYS file at No. 21.

   Coordinates field:
      This displays the current coordinates of the picture.
      You can also input these directly here, or centre the
      picture (horizontally, vertically or both). The size of
      the picture at the current zoom setting is also shown,
      but cannot be altered directly.

NOTE: Should the PopUps be inoperable after use, please
      press a key combination such as <Alternate-Z> for
      instance, or open the Info-box and quit it with
      <Return>. The cause of the problem was an overflow in
      the keyboard buffer. Pressing the above key combination
      empties the keyboard buffer making the printer dialog
      operable once more. This trick can also be used in
      other programs when keyboard buffer overflow has taken
      place (typically resulting in continuing key-clicks, if
      these have not been turned off).
