Chagall Reference Global <Control-G> 12.5.93
==================================================

Here you can set up general parameters:

   'Output via operating system'
refers to printer control: If this option is
switched off, then Chagall addresses the interface
hardware directly, which permits the fastest
possible output speed. In some circumstances,
though, this can give rise to incompatibilities
which may be overcome by using this option.

   'Safety queries'
Normally Chagall displays a warning safety
      query before performing critical operations,
i.e. specially before functions that could
result in data losses. If this option is
switched off then Chagall will perform the
relevant functions without warning you first.

   'Automatic Undo-buffer creation'
If this function is switched on it ensures
that when a new picture is created, or an
existing one loaded, an Undo-buffer is created
automatically and the picture is copied into it.
If this option is de-activated then an Undo-
buffer will only be created when the picture
is 'adopted' manually. This is really sensible
only when memory is getting short and you are
therefore willing to dispense with an Undo-
      buffer for some pictures.

   'Swap Undo-buffer with picture'
If this function is switched on, pressing the
<Undo> key does not copy the Undo-buffer over
the picture, but merely swaps it with the current
picture contents. Then a repeated key-press will
      restore the original picture.

   'Load mask automatically'
During loading and saving Chagall can, if desired,
automatically load/save the mask when the relevant
option is activated. The mask will be searched for/
loaded under the same name as the picture, but with
      the extension '.MSK'.

   'Multiples of 16 for monochrome'
When working with monochrome pictures it may
be desirable in some circumstances to round up
the dimensions of the picture to an integer
multiple of 16. This ensures that programs
that may have difficulties with interpretation
of the IMG-format can be used to work on the
picture without problems. If you are likely to
use such external programs then switch this
      option on.

   'Path for temporary files'
In the path for temporary files Chagall
saves various files that are needed internally
while the program is running. Above all this
covers temporary files when printing out via
GDOS. Since such files may reach sizes of
several hundred kilobytes, this path should
lead to a hard disk partition which has
a corresponding amount of free space available.

   'Path for image files'
Here you have to enter where pictures should be
      loaded from or saved to.

   'Path for mask files'
In the same way input the path for mask files,
where masks will normally be looked for or
      saved to.

For setting these paths click on the respective
field. Chagall will then display a file selector box
in which you can choose any desired path. The path
for picture files is pre-set for loading and saving,
but can naturally be altered in the file selector
      in the usual way.

   'Language'
Finally with this dialog you can switch
to make Chagall display all texts in English
or another language (German or French).
