Chagall Reference System info <Control-I> 12.5.93
===================================================

   Under 'System information' you will find details
   about the current picture as well as general
   information about the amount of memory available
   in RAM as well as on a (selectable) disk or partition.

   The part marked 'Picture' contains details of the
   picture currently active and will therefore be
   updated any time the picture data changes or a
   different picture window is activated.

   'Picture type'
     corresponds to the contents of the window as
     determined during the creation of the picture;
     normally this will be a rastered picture.

   'Colour-depth'
     gives the amount of information used to describe
     each pixel in bits. Possible values for current
     Chagall versions are 1, 8 or 24 bits.

   'Resolution'
     is only a theoretically meaningful value, since it
     doesn't directly influence the appearance or the size
     of the picture on the screen. By clicking on one or
     both of the DPI values in the system information box,
     clearing it with <Esc> and typing in new figures you
     can change the resolution at any time to ascertain
     the measurements in centimetres of the resulting
     picture output for a constant size in pixels.

   Furthermore Chagall displays the memory required for
   the current picture. But bear in mind that in addition
   to the actual picture, memory will also be needed for
   the Undo-buffer, the mask and possibly for block storage.

   Finally you will find here the name of the current
   picture, as well as details on whether a mask or a
   block is associated with the currently active picture.

   'Free Memory'
     Here the dialog box shows how much RAM remains available
     both in total and as the largest contiguous block.

   Below this you will find details about remaining memory
   space on the specified disk or partition; you can scroll
   through all active drives with the scroll arrows.
