The CHAGALL Help-system
=======================

So that CHAGALL does not become unnecessarily large, we have decided to
position the Help-file externally and to include it as a Desk Accessory.
Thus you can decide for yourself whether you are willing to 'sacrifice'
the memory required to install the accessory or not.

The CHAGALL Help-system consists of the following files:

          HELP\1STGUIDE.ACC (the Accessory)
          HELP\CHAGALL.HLP (Help files)
          HELP\CHAGALL.IDX (Index)
          HELP\MENU (Folder with texts)
          HELP\DIC (Folder with texts)

For installation you proceed as follows:

Copy '1STGUIDE.ACC' into the root-directory of your boot-partition or to
your boot-disk.

Copy the complete 'HELP' folder without the '1STGUIDE.ACC' file into a
folder that also contains 'CHAGALL.PRG'. In general you will have already
done this automatically when installing CHAGALL.

Now re-start your computer with a reset. After this you still have to
undertake a minor installation procedure for the accessory.

To do this, click on '1st Guide' from the DA entries under the first
'CHAGALL' menu heading. This will open a file-selector box. In this select
the 'CHAGALL.HLP' file. If, for instance, you have copied CHAGALL to
'D:\CHAGALL\CHAGALL.PRG' then select 'D:\CHAGALL\HELP\CHAGALL.HLP'.

This will open one page of CHAGALL-Help. Now press the key-combination
<Control-A> and a further dialog-box opens up. In this click on the
'Index-file' field. A further file-selection box opens. In this select
the index-file {{'CHAGALL.IDX' in the appropriate directory}}. After this
click on the 'Save' field {{and on 'OK' in the safety query. In some cases
you may be asked for the name of the file to save to; if so, select
'1STGUIDE.ACC'}}.

Now your Help-system is ready for use and will be called up automatically
while using CHAGALL as soon as the <Help> key is pressed.

The Help-system is very easy to use:

The Help text appears in a window which can be scrolled back and forth, as
normal in GEM. A double-click on any word shown in bold and underlined
lead to a new window where you can find detailed explanations of the word
clicked on.
