			    Installation & Compile
__________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________

Note the main NATIVE SPIRIT project folder remains named "Duranik"
With Rev02, DURANIK folder placement is no longer restricted.
The Duranik folder is now movable with current makefiles.
However, to compile, you must still point to the proper directory.

COMPILE
Open DOS prompt on your Windows 95 or Windows 98 compatible PC.
Use "CD" _C_hange _D_irectory & "CD.." to your "Duranik" Folder.

		Microsoft(R) Windows 98
		   (C)Copyright Microsoft Corp 1981-1998.

		C:\WINDOWS>cd..

		C:\>cd jaguar\duranik

		C:\Jaguar\Duranik>nmake

With the Atari Jaguar Developer Environment installed...
At DOS Prompt, type "nmake" or "make" to compile,
depending on your set-up. This calls the "Makefile."
You should see screen output linking files together successfully.
If the link fails, check your System Configuration.

Author's Windows 98 System Configuration

Hold "delete" at startup to enter SETUP
	Integrated Peripherals
		Onboard Parallel Port: 278/IRQ5 (?)
		Prallel Port Mode : EPP1.9

Jaguar Developer Tools located on C Drive...
Edit autoexec.bat as your JAGUAR directory applies:

	set RDBRC=C:\JAGUAR\BIN\RDB.RC
	set DBPATH=C:\JAGUAR\BIN
	set ALNPATH=C:\JAGUAR\BIN
	set MACPATH=C:\JAGUAR\INCLUDE
	set TEMP=C:
	set PATH=%PATH%;C:\JAGUAR\BIN;C:\JAGUAR\GNU\BIN
	set GCC_EXEC_PREFIX=C:/JAGUAR/BIN

If you have made changes and you get...
	"SPIRIT.COF is up-to-date"
then delete the "SPIRIT.o" file & recompile.

ALPINE BOARD (Working September 2007)
If "link complete," type "wdb jkd.db" at DOS prompt or "load jkd.db"
in debugger to upload and playtest on Alpine.

JUGS (Working November 2007)
	_J_aguar _U_nmodified _G_ame _S_erver has been tested & working using a	"BattleSphere" cartridge with "Spirit02.BIN" running "BIGUNS02.bat" settings.
TROUBLESHOOTING: Check cables. Move JagLink cable away from any power cords. Close all unused open programs. Leave Jaguar Console off for at least 10 seconds before powering up again. Let entire BattleSphere Menu load before activating Development System. Try alt baud setting. "BattleSphere Gold" searches for CD attachment... unknown why it does this on retail console units. (Always searches for CD on Dev unit. Was BJL cable attached?) Original BattleSphere appears to have better uploading reliability without using a CD unit.

BJL ***untested***
_B_ehind _J_aggy _L_ines is known to work with the REV001 release.
However, the author of this document has yet to have any BJL success.

FLASH CART ***untested***
No success with current version. Cart not working properly...

This Demo does not contain Sounds, LevelBosses, and
the Native extra weapon system due the low amount of
    available work RAM.
Remember: It is not possible to reload data with the current
version of the Jag-Server software therefore we have
to store all the compressed Native data in memory.
We have to divide the memory into 1 MB work ram and
              1 MB compressed data.
It was simply not possible to include more data
like all the Sounds and the 2 LevelBosses. Sorry.

  * General

    Native is a horizontal 2D shoot em'up.
Press the A, B, or C Button to get started.

  * Controls

Use the JagPad to move your spaceship.
The weapons are controlled with the B and C Buttons of
the Pad. With the B-Button you are able to shoot.
It is only a shot with low energy. But be careful some
enemies need more than one low energy shot to blast.
Therefore use the C-Button to fire a shot with more energy.
You can see the amount of energy for your Power shot
on the lower left corner of your screen.

  * Extra weapons ( not included in the demo !)

Native does contain two combined extraweapon systems.
Some of the destroyed enemies lose a coin or a star.
Collect the money to buy extra weapons in the shop
in the middle of each level. You can buy for
example a satellite, lives, energy etc...
The star is something different. It contains a
letter like for example a "O" or "X".
Every letter picked up will transform your ship completely.
There exists five different classes of ships.
If you pick up the same letter again you will power up the
shot power of your ship. (Again 5 different power classes for
    each ship).
It is the same system used in the best ST shoot'em ups
Wings of Death and Lethal Xcess.
Remember: The extra weapon system is not included in the demo.
You can collect the money the stars can't be
              collected in the demo.

  * Some technical details

    - 60 fps (50 Hz Pal is not supported in the demo)
    - 16 Bit CrY Mode
    - up to 4 layers of parallax scrolling
    - Transparency and lightning effects
    - up to 120 Sprites (OP-Objects) on Screen
    - Scaling effects (OP)
    - real time data decrunch (DSP)
    - Game engine is running completely on the GPU
    - Rotation effects (not included in demo - not enough work ram)

If you want to know something special about the used techniques
    write us a E-Mail.

  * Credits

    Roland Graf - coding

                     - Level design

  * Publishing

We don't have a publisher for Native till now. If we don't
find a solution in the next 4 weeks we will stop any work
    on this game.
As you can see on the demo size it is not possible to make
a 16 MBit (2 MByte) cartridge out of this game.
The complete level with the 2 Bosses and FX Samples will take
about 1.6 MByte (and still does not contain any Music).
We are using a good compression algorithm but 2D graphics does need
    a lot of memory.
The only solution is a CD version but we don't have a CD-devkit...

Native demo is freeware. You can copy it as long as no profit is
  made.

If you want to put this demo on your homepage or do anything else with
  it please ask us.

It is not allowed to put this demo on any kind of CD-Rom without
  our written permission.

HASBRO INTERACTIVE RELEASES RIGHTS TO THE ATARI JAGUAR HARDWARE PLATFORM
BEVERLY, MA (May 13, 1999) - Leading entertainment software publisher,
Hasbro Interactive announced today it has released all rights that it
may have to the vintage Atari hardware platform, the Jaguar.

Hasbro Interactive acquired rights to many Atari properties, including
the legendary Centipede, Missile Command and Asteroids games, in a March
1998 acquisition from JTS Corporation.

This announcement will allow software developers to create and publish
software for the Jaguar system without having to obtain a licensing
agreement with Hasbro Interactive for such platform development. Hasbro
Interactive cautioned, however, that the developers should not use the
Atari trademark or logo in connection with their games or present the
games as authorized or approved by Hasbro Interactive.

"Hasbro Interactive is strictly focused on developing and publishing
entertainment software for the PC and the next generation game
consoles," said Richard Cleveland, Head of Marketing for Hasbro
Interactive's Atari Business Unit. "We realize there is a passionate
audience of diehard Atari fans who want to keep the Jaguar system alive,
and we don't want to prevent them from doing that. We will not interfere
with the efforts of software developers to create software for the
Jaguar system."

Hasbro Interactive, Inc. is a leading all-family interactive games
publisher, formed in 1995 to bring to life on the computer the deep
library of toy and board games of parent company, Hasbro, Inc.
(ASE:HAS). Hasbro Interactive has expanded its charter to include
original and licensed games for the PC, the PlayStation and Nintendo 64
game consoles and for multi-player gaming over the Internet.
Headquartered in Beverly, Massachusetts, Hasbro Interactive has offices
in the U.K., France, Germany, Japan and Canada. For more information,
